How long can you keep an UNopened bottle of Hennessy cognac? Will it ever go bad?

I want to give it as a Christmas present (but not if there is a chance that it has "gone bad." Thanks.|||I can't keep one for very long at all. For some reason, it always seems to end up empty quite quickly.

However, spirits in general will keep indefinitely if unopened. They will not improve with age. The ageing of spirits is always done in wooden barrels and it is the barrels that cause the spirit to change as it gets older. In a bottle it will hardly change at all, may even deteriorate somewhat if left for many years.

Anything up to 10 years will not be a problem - though the label may get a bit tatty.|||Brandy will last for centuries so long as the cork is intact. The cork is the weak link. The reason they store wine bottles on their sides is so the cork will stay wet, not dry out and shrink. So yes, if it's still sealed, it's good.|||Some Cognacs get better with age, if you have been keeping it inside and in the garage getting hot and then cold, hot then cold it could be years old|||cognac stops aging once out of the barrel.. As long as the bottle is air tight, it'll never go bad.

Cheers!
